Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Pink or violet (2.8-3.8mm)
  • Coq de Leon or hackle fibers (tail) Violet (small clump)
  • Hare's ear dubbing Natural hare s ear dubbing (pinch)
  • Peacock ice dub (thorax) Black/peacock ice dub (pinch)
  • CDC (collar) Natural dun cdc feather (1 sparse feather)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the pink or violet slotted bead onto the jig hook, slot forward against the eye, and start the thread behind it.
  2. At the bend tie in a short violet tail of Coq de Leon or dyed hackle fibers, one shank length long and sparse.
  3. Dub a slim, slightly tapered abdomen of natural hare's ear from the tail to the 65% mark; keep it thin so the fly cuts water.
  4. Switch to black peacock ice dub and build a slightly fatter thorax up to just behind the bead.
  5. Tie in one CDC feather by the tip, wind two turns as a sparse collar behind the bead, and stroke the fibers back.
  6. Pinch off the CDC tip, take a couple of thread turns to seat the collar against the bead, whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of cement.
