Materials

  • Butt Red thread or floss (short tag)
  • Body Pheasant tail fibers (few fibers)
  • Wing CDC, natural/dun (1-2 feathers)
  • Collar CDC or soft hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and lay a base to the bend.
  2. Build a short bright red butt/tag at the very rear with red thread or floss, the caddis hot spot.
  3. Tie in a few pheasant tail fibers and wrap a slim, segmented body forward to the 65% mark.
  4. Tie in a CDC feather (or two) flat over the back as a low tent wing, tips reaching just past the bend for the caddis profile.
  5. Spin a CDC feather in a loop for a sparse collar, or wind a soft hackle 1-2 turns behind the eye.
  6. Sweep the fibers back, build a small head, whip finish, and add a tiny drop of cement kept off the CDC.
