Roza's Pink Pheasant Tail

  • Hook barbless jig hook (Hanak), 14-18
  • Thread Black 70D

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Metallic pink bead (3mm, 1)
  • Tail and body Pheasant tail fibers (4-5 fibers)
  • Rib Red Ultra Wire (brassie) (1 strand)
  • Shellback/flash Pearl/Sulky tinsel (1 strand)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the metallic pink tungsten bead onto the jig hook; seat it and start black thread.
  2. Lay a base to the bend and bind 4-5 pheasant tail fibers as a short tail, half a shank. Save the long butts for the body.
  3. Tie in red Ultra Wire and a strand of pearl/Sulky tinsel at the tail; the wire ribs and the tinsel becomes a flashy shellback.
  4. Wrap the pheasant tail fibers forward in touching turns to behind the bead. 4-5 fibers keeps the body slender.
  5. Pull the tinsel over the top as a flashback and bind it behind the bead.
  6. Counter-rib the red wire forward in 5-6 open turns for durability and a subtle red segmentation; helicopter to break.
  7. Whip finish behind the pink bead and cement, or add a thin UV coat over the body.
