Reference Recipe

  • Hook barbless jig hook, 14-18
  • Thread Olive 70D

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Copper or gold slotted tungsten bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Tail Coq de Leon (pardo) (few fibers)
  • Body Olive ostrich herl (thread or light dubbing)
  • Rib Gold or copper wire (1 strand)
  • Thorax Olive or peacock ice dub (small pinch)
  • UV resin (optional) Clear uv resin (thin coat)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the slotted tungsten bead onto the jig hook; seat it and start olive thread.
  2. Lay a base to the bend and bind a short sparse Coq de Leon tail, half a shank.
  3. Tie in fine gold or copper wire at the tail.
  4. Build a slim olive body (thread or lightly dubbed) forward to behind the bead. Keep it slender for clear water.
  5. Rib the wire forward in 5-6 open turns; helicopter to break.
  6. Dub a small olive or peacock thorax behind the bead and whip finish.
  7. Optionally coat the body with thin UV resin for durability and shine; cure.
