Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook barbless jig hook, 12-16
- Thread Black 70D
Materials
- Slotted tungsten bead Silver or gold slotted tungsten bead (1, sized to hook)
- Tail Coq de Leon (pardo) (few fibers)
- Body Black ostrich herl (thread or dubbing)
- Rib Pearl tinsel (1 strand)
- Hot spot collar Fire orange (small pinch)
How to tie it
- Slide the slotted tungsten bead onto the jig hook; seat it and start black thread.
- Lay a base to the bend and tie in a short sparse Coq de Leon tail, half a shank.
- Tie in a strand of pearl tinsel for the rib at the tail.
- Dub or wrap a slim black body two-thirds of the way forward.
- Rib the pearl tinsel forward in 5-6 open turns for a bright, segmented flash that shows up in murky water; tie off.
- Dub a short fire-orange hot-spot collar behind the bead. Black and fire orange are the two colors trout pick out in colored water.
- Whip finish behind the bead and cement, or add a thin UV coat over the body.
