  • Hook standard dry-fly hook, 12-16
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Tag Flat gold tinsel (1 strand)
  • Rear hackle Brown hackle (1 feather)
  • Body Peacock herl / red floss / peacock herl (banded)
  • Front hackle White/cream front hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at the bend and wrap a small flat gold tag.
  2. Tie in a brown hackle at the tag and take 3-4 turns as the rear (aft) hackle; sweep and lock it.
  3. Tie in 2 peacock herls; make a peacock ball, a red floss center band, then a peacock ball forward to the 80% mark.
  4. Tie in a white/cream hackle at the front and wind 3-4 turns as the fore hackle.
  5. Whip finish behind the eye and cement.
