Royal Para Wulff Purple Dry Fly

Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry-fly hook, 10-16
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Wing post White calf hair (1 clump)
  • Tail Moose body hair (or brown) (1 small bunch)
  • Body Peacock herl / purple floss / peacock herl (banded)
  • Hackle Brown and grizzly hackle (1 each)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread, stack white calf hair, and tie in a single upright post at the 70% mark; post the base.
  2. Wrap to the bend and tie in a moose body hair tail, one shank long.
  3. Build the royal body but wrap a purple floss center band between the two peacock balls, up to the post.
  4. Tie in one brown and one grizzly hackle at the base of the post, shiny side up.
  5. Wind both hackles parachute-style, 4-5 turns, and secure under the post.
  6. Whip finish behind the eye, trim the post to one shank height, and cement the base.
