Tie in 6-8 golden pheasant tippet fibers for the tail, the orange fibers with black bars. About three-quarters of a shank length.
Tie in 2-3 peacock herls and wrap the rear third of the body. Twist them into a rope first for durability.
Tie in red floss and wrap the middle third, a clean, smooth band. The red band against the peacock is the "Royal" signature.
Wrap more peacock herl for the front third. The two peacock sections should match in size, framing the red band evenly.
Tie in a brown hen feather by the tip and wrap 2-3 turns as a collar. Sweep the fibers back and down with your fingers, then lock them with a few thread wraps. Wet fly hackle should angle rearward.
Select two matched white duck quill slips, concave sides in. Tie them in tent-style over the body. Low and sloping back, not upright like a dry fly.
