Reference Recipe

  • Hook curved scud/pupa hook, 10
  • Thread Olive 8/0

Materials

  • Inverting tungsten bead Copper/black tungsten bead (2.8mm, 1)
  • Marabou (tail) Olive marabou (1 small clump)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (2-3 strands)
  • Straggle String (body) Olive uv straggle chenille mm (1 length)
  • Brahma hen (collar) Olive brahma hen fibers (1 feather)
  • Brushable super glue Clear head cement (1 drop)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the inverting tungsten bead on concave-face forward so the fly rides hook-point-up; seat it behind the eye and start olive thread.
  2. Lay a thread base to the bend.
  3. Tie in a sparse olive marabou tail one shank length long, then lay 2-3 strands of pearl Flashabou over it and trim to the tail tips.
  4. Tie in a length of olive Straggle String at the tail.
  5. Wrap the Straggle String forward in touching turns to just behind the bead for a fuzzy, mobile body; tie off.
  6. Tie in a Brahma hen feather by the tip and take 2-3 wraps as a soft, webby collar; sweep the fibers back and lock down.
  7. Whip finish against the bead and add a drop of brushable super glue to the thread wraps.
