  • Hook 2XL nymph hook (Daiichi 1710), 10-14
  • Thread Olive 8/0

Materials

  • Marabou (tail, body, thorax, legs) Olive (match naturals) (1 plume)
  • Wire rib Copper wire (fine, 1 strand)
  • Shellback Pearl/Mirage opal mylar (1 strip)
  • Mono eyes Black or olive dumbbell eyes (1 set)
  • Wing case Olive Stretch Flex (1 strip)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and lay a base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a sparse olive marabou tail by the tips, one shank length long, and save the butts.
  3. Tie in fine copper wire and a strip of pearl opal mylar at the tail for rib and shellback.
  4. Twist the marabou butts into a rope and wrap forward to the 60% mark for the abdomen.
  5. Pull the pearl mylar over the top as a shellback, then rib the copper wire over it in 5-6 open turns; tie off and break the wire.
  6. Bind a set of black mono eyes across the shank just short of the hook eye, figure-8 to seat them.
  7. Dub a marabou thorax back and forth around the eyes and sweep a few marabou fibers back as legs.
  8. Tie a short strip of Stretch Flex over the thorax as a wing case behind the eyes, whip finish, and cement.
