Slide the OfishL black nickel 3/32 brass bead onto the Aqua Flies ATH5700 chironomid hook in a size 14, big hole pointing towards the eye — that hole is what gives the gills and thread room to tuck under later.
Attach the UTC grey brown 70D thread just behind the eye, in front of the bead, and tie in a length of white Uni Stretch for the gills with a couple of wraps behind and a couple in front to prop them up away from the eye. Whip finish to hold them in place.
Slide the bead back over the gill butts and reattach the thread right behind the bead.
Wrap the thread rearward in smooth uniform turns that do not cross over, stopping at the start of the bend.
Rib: back the thread up a fraction and catch a single strand of Hedron brown holographic Flashabou in with the last couple of wraps.
Build the body with thread alone, running it back and forth to a taper — fatter towards the bead, skinnier at the butt. Whip finish behind the bead and cut the grey brown thread away.
Attach the UTC burnt orange 70D behind the bead and build the thorax with it.
Wrap the Flashabou forward to segment the body, opening the spacing out as you get towards the bead; tie it off behind the bead, trim flush, and take a single whip finish — one is enough here because the resin locks everything, and a second only adds bulk.
Coat the whole fly in Raidzap Super Thin, give it rotisserie action under the UV light, and let it sit.
