Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved scud/pupa (Mustad C53S), 10-16
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Black nickel or silver bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Holographic tinsel (body) Silver flashabou (body length)
  • Wire (rib) Black wire (fine, body length)
  • Antron/Z-lon (gills) White poly yarn (1 short tuft)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the bead at the eye and lay a thread base back around the bend.
  2. Tie in fine black wire at the bend for the rib.
  3. Tie in silver holographic tinsel and wrap it forward in touching turns to just behind the bead for a bright chrome body; tie off.
  4. Counter-wrap the black wire forward in 5-6 open turns to segment and protect the tinsel; tie off and break.
  5. Tie a short tuft of white Antron over the front behind the bead and trim to a stub for the gills.
  6. Coat the body with thin UV resin for a gassy, durable shine and whip finish behind the bead.
