Streamer · Trout · Smallmouth Bass · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 60-degree jig (Daiichi 4647), 14-16
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Balance pin + bead (fly pin) n/a (1 set)
  • Rabbit fur (tail) Black ostrich herl (small pinch)
  • Krystal Flash Red holographic tinsel (2 strands)
  • Micro chenille (body) UV black micro chenille (body length)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a fly pin with its bead along the top of the shank so the bead sits a bead's-width past the eye; lash the pin down over the front third, jam the bead tight, and secure with thread and a drop of superglue.
  2. Wrap the thread back to the bend.
  3. Tie in a small pinch of black rabbit fur at the bend for the tail, about one shank length, with 2 strands of red Krystal Flash alongside.
  4. Tie in UV black micro chenille and wrap it forward to just behind the bead; tie off.
  5. Whip finish behind the bead and cement; hang the fly from tippet to confirm it balances level.
