  • Hook 2XL dry (hopper), 8-12
  • Thread Tan 6/0

Materials

  • Hare's ear dubbing (body) Natural/tan hare s ear dubbing (for body and head)
  • Elk hair (rear wing) Tan elk hair (1 clump)
  • High-float synthetic yarn (front wing) White/gray high float synthetic yarn (1 clump)
  • Foam tab (sighter) Yellow mm foam (1 short tab)
  • Round rubber legs Tan/brown rubber legs barred (2 knotted legs)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at the bend and dub a fat, slightly tapered hare's-ear body forward to the 70% mark, leaving room up front.
  2. Stack a clump of tan elk hair and tie it in flat over the body as the rear wing, tips reaching the bend; trim the butts.
  3. Tie a knotted round-rubber leg on each side so the knee-knot sits at the body and the leg kicks back toward the bend.
  4. Tie in a clump of white/gray high-float synthetic yarn upright and slightly back over the thorax for the front wing.
  5. Tie a short tab of yellow foam flat on top over the wing base as a sighter.
  6. Dub a little more hare's ear to cover the tie-ins and build a small head; whip finish behind the eye and cement.
