  • Hook Standard dry, 12-16

Materials

  • Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (2-3 strands)
  • Hackle Grizzly hackle (2 feathers)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at the bend.
  2. Tie in a grizzly hackle by its tip and 1-2 peacock herls at the bend.
  3. Wrap the peacock forward to mid-shank (50%) as the rear cluster body; tie off there.
  4. Palmer the grizzly hackle forward over that rear half in 4-5 open turns; tie off at mid-shank and snip. That completes the first gnat.
  5. Tie in a second grizzly hackle and fresh peacock herl at mid-shank.
  6. Wrap the peacock forward to behind the eye, then palmer the second hackle over the front half; tie off and snip.
  7. Whip finish behind the eye and cement.
