The Orvis Company dressing
Hook 2X-long nymph hook, 12-16
Thread Brown or tan, or 8/0 6/0
Materials
Weight Nontoxic wire, .015 or .020
Shuck Tan or brown Antron yarn
Body Tan, brown, or green dubbing
Legs Mallard, wood duck, partridge, or other speckled feather
Head Brown fur or ostrich herl
How to tie it
Seat the black bead at the eye and lay a thread base to the bend.
Tie in bright green Ultra Wire and wrap it forward in touching turns to the 70% mark for a segmented abdomen; tie off and helicopter to break.
Tie a sparse veil of amber/green Antron over and under the abdomen, left loose so it traps air like the natural's gas sheath; trim it to about the hook point.
Tie a few fibers of dark brown deer hair or Antron over the top, back to the rear of the body, to suggest the dark wing pads.
Dub a short brown thorax behind the bead and sweep the fibers back.
