How to tie it
Start black thread and run a base back to just above the barb.
Even the tips of a clump of Lady Amherst tippet fibers and tie them in at the bend, about a hook-gap long; the material is fragile, so tie in a little extra.
Tie in the small copper wire and bind it down along the whole shank back to the tie-in point above the barb, then half-hitch there so the dubbing can be started.
Dub a cigar-shaped body forward, thin at the tail and swelling through the middle. Hand-dub it or use a dubbing loop; leave room at the front for wing, throat and head.
Spiral the copper wire forward over the body in evenly spaced turns, tie off, and trim.
Tie a small pinch of rusty olive Angel Hair on top of the shank, fold it back over itself, and trim it to just short of the tail with a tapered end. This is the underwing.
Turn the fly over (or work from underneath) and wrap the black saddle hackle three or four turns as a collar just behind the head, then stroke the fibers down and back to form a throat; trim any stragglers.
Cut a wide slip of goose or duck quill (spray it with fixative first so it won't split). Pinch it between thumb and index finger on top of the shank, bring the thread up between your fingers, take it under the shank, and pull straight up. This sets the wing on top without rolling it. Set the wing to about the end of the tail.
Build a neat head behind the eye, using a thumbnail as a stop so wraps don't creep back, and whip finish.
Finish the head with UV resin (or head cement / nail polish), the resin also lights up the red flecks buried in the dubbing.
