Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig nymph (Fulling Mill 5125), 10-14
  • Thread Black 140 denier

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Metallic red slotted tungsten bead (1, 3.8mm)
  • Worm/chewy chenille (tail) Brown-olive worm chewy chenille (one shank length)
  • Nymph dubbing (body) Dark olive dubbing (small amount)
  • UV microflash dubbing (thorax) UV light olive ice dub (pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the red bead at the eye and lay a thread base to the bend.
  2. Bind a length of brown-olive worm chenille at the bend, trailing about one shank length; keep firm tension so it does not slip or cut.
  3. Dub a slim body of dark olive nymph dubbing forward to the 60% mark.
  4. Blend in the UV light-olive microflash dubbing and build a fuller thorax up to just behind the bead.
  5. Brush the thorax out into a breathing, leechy halo.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
