Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard midge, 20-24
  • Thread Red 8/0

Materials

  • Body Red thread (tapered)
  • Wing White CDC or poly puff (tiny)
  • Rib Fine silver wire (2 inches)

How to tie it

  1. Mount hook, build a smooth tapered red thread body.
  2. Counter-wrap fine silver wire in 4-5 even turns.
  3. Add a tiny white wing puff at the thorax.
  4. Whip finish.

Substitutions

  • Body instead of Red thread: Red wire (fine) — Adds slight weight and flash; Red floss — Slightly thicker body
  • Wing instead of White CDC or poly puff: White poly yarn — More visible, easier to tie; White Aero Dry Wing — Bright wing bud
