Rohmer's BH Simi Seal Leech

Streamer · Trout · Smallmouth Bass · Intermediate · 2 versions

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL nymph/streamer, 8-12
  • Thread To match body 6/0

Materials

  • Tungsten or brass bead Gold or black bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Arizona Simi Seal dubbing Black, olive, or Canadian brown (small amount)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the bead to the eye and lay a thread base to the bend.
  2. Pinch a sparse clump of Simi Seal dubbing and tie it in at the bend as a wispy tail, about half a shank long; the guard fibers make it look leechy.
  3. Spin a dubbing loop and charge it lightly with Simi Seal, keeping it to half of what you think you need.
  4. Twist the loop tight and palmer it forward to just behind the bead, stroking the fibers rearward on each turn; tie off and snip.
  5. Brush the body out with a bit of velcro to free the long guard fibers into a breathing, shaggy profile.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
