Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL curved nymph, 6-10
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Tungsten bead Black bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Lead-free wire n/a (middle of shank)
  • Space-age / cactus chenille (Estaz) Peacock or black multicolor (body length)
  • Round rubber legs Black ostrich herl (3 strands)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the black bead at the eye, wrap lead-free wire over the middle of the shank, jam it to the bead, and lay a thread base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a black round-rubber strand at the bend so it splits into a short tail, about a hook gap each side.
  3. Tie in the space-age (Estaz/cactus) chenille at the bend.
  4. Wrap the chenille forward in touching turns, pausing to figure-8 a rubber strand across the shank at mid-body and again in front, then continue to the bead and tie off.
  5. Trim the tails to a hook gap and the mid and front legs to about a shank length.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
