Classic Recipe

  • Hook Egg hook, 10-14
  • Thread Orange 6/0

Materials

  • Body Orange yarn or dubbing (oval)
  • Veil White yarn, sparse (over)

How to tie it

  1. Mount an egg hook and start orange thread at the midpoint of the shank.
  2. Tie in orange egg yarn or dubbing and build a rounded, oval egg body covering the middle of the shank; keep it fat and egg-shaped rather than tapered.
  3. If using yarn, gather and compress the fibers into the oval and trim close and round; if dubbing, wind a tight ball.
  4. Cut a sparse clump of white yarn, lay it over the top of the orange body, and bind it down at the center so it drapes over the egg as a thin veil.
  5. Trim the white veil so it lies over the orange oval, sparse and slightly longer, suggesting the milky membrane.
  6. Whip finish at a small head behind the eye and add a drop of cement.
