Classic Recipe
- Hook Egg hook, 10-14
- Thread Orange 6/0
Materials
- Body Orange yarn or dubbing (oval)
- Veil White yarn, sparse (over)
How to tie it
- Mount an egg hook and start orange thread at the midpoint of the shank.
- Tie in orange egg yarn or dubbing and build a rounded, oval egg body covering the middle of the shank; keep it fat and egg-shaped rather than tapered.
- If using yarn, gather and compress the fibers into the oval and trim close and round; if dubbing, wind a tight ball.
- Cut a sparse clump of white yarn, lay it over the top of the orange body, and bind it down at the center so it drapes over the egg as a thin veil.
- Trim the white veil so it lies over the orange oval, sparse and slightly longer, suggesting the milky membrane.
- Whip finish at a small head behind the eye and add a drop of cement.
