Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Black/copper bead (1, large)
  • Lead-free wire n/a (rear 2/3)
  • Goose biots Brown goose biots (2 for tail)
  • Dubbing (abdomen) Dark brown dubbing (small amount)
  • Wire rib Copper wire (body length)
  • Hare's ear dubbing (thorax) Natural hare s ear dubbing (small pinch)
  • Rubber legs Brown/black rubber legs (2 strands)
  • Thin skin / scud skin (wingcase) Brown thin skin mottled (1 strip)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the large bead at the eye, wrap lead-free wire over the rear two-thirds, jam it to the bead, and lay a thread base to the bend.
  2. Tie in two brown goose biots at the bend, splayed into a V, about a third of a shank long.
  3. Tie in the copper rib, then dub a tapered dark-brown abdomen forward to the 65% mark.
  4. Counter-rib the copper wire forward in 5-6 evenly spaced turns; secure and break it off.
  5. Tie in the thin-skin wingcase strip and a rubber-leg strand on each side, then dub a shaggy hare's-ear thorax around them.
  6. Fold the rubber legs back to splay each side, pull the wingcase over the thorax, and bind behind the bead; trim the legs to a shank length.
  7. Whip finish and coat the wingcase top with UV resin.
