Superglue and clear varnish
How to tie it
With rusty-brown thread, start just short of the hook point and lay a neat thread base around the bend and back to in line with the point.
Brush a coat of superglue over the thread base, then wind a stripped peacock quill (dark-marked edge forward) up the shank to in line with the point, leaving the rusty-brown thread showing as a fine rib. Catch it with two or three turns, trim, and whip finish. Coat the quill body with clear varnish and let it dry.
Restart with red thread and take it back to in line with the hook point. Stack a small bunch of natural roe deer hair, tie it in as an underwing extending just past the back of the hook, and trim the butts.
Tie in two knotted pheasant-tail fibers on each side of the deer-hair underwing as legs, about twice the length of the underwing.
Dub a neat thorax of red seal's fur, leaving room at the head for hackle and CDC.
Align the tips of three small natural CDC feathers and tie them in as a wing over the thorax to the length you prefer (a touch of wax on the thread helps grip the CDC).
Tie in and wind a natural brown Indian cock hackle at the head, then whip finish. Optionally varnish the head.
