Reference Recipe

  • Hook 4XL streamer (e.g. TMC 5263), 4-8
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Cone (brass/gold) Gold cone (1, sized to hook)
  • Marabou (tail) Olive marabou (1 plume)
  • Marabou (tail underlay) Brown/yellow marabou (1 short pinch)
  • Variegated chenille Olive/black variegated chenille (body length)
  • Saddle hackle Grizzly hackle (1 feather)
  • Round rubber legs Yellow round rubber (2 strands)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the gold cone on small-end first and seat it against the eye. Start thread behind the cone, build a small thread dam to lock it forward, then wrap back to the bend.
  2. Tie in a clump of olive marabou at the bend for the tail, one shank length long, with a shorter pinch of brown/yellow marabou beneath it; bind and snip the butts.
  3. At the bend tie in a grizzly saddle by its tip and a length of variegated chenille.
  4. Wrap the chenille forward in touching turns to just behind the cone; tie off and snip.
  5. Palmer the grizzly hackle forward over the body in 5-6 open, evenly spaced turns; tie off behind the cone and snip.
  6. Figure-8 a strand of yellow round rubber on each side just behind the cone so the legs sweep back; trim them to about one shank length.
  7. Whip finish behind the cone and add a drop of cement.
