Tyer Recipe

• Hook Wide-gap worm / offset (Texas-rig) hook for weedless rigging, 1-2/0
• Thread Chartreuse or to match 6/0

Materials

• Closed-cell foam strip Chartreuse, black or olive closed cell foam strip (1 strip)
• Saddle hackle To match foam (1 feather)
• Estaz / cactus chenille To match estaz cactus chenille (1 length)
• Round rubber legs Barred rubber legs (2-3 pairs)
• Flash Pearl flashabou (Small bunch for tail)

How to tie it

1. Mount the offset worm hook and start the thread at the 20% point behind the eye; wrap a base back to the bend.
2. At the bend tie in a short tail of a foam tag plus a few strands of flash, then bind in the tip of a foam strip pointing rearward (this becomes the Gurgler back and lip).
3. Tie in a saddle hackle and a length of estaz at the bend.
4. Wrap the estaz forward to the 80% point to build the body, then palmer the hackle forward through it and tie off.
5. Tie in one or two pairs of rubber legs on each side, splayed outward.
6. Pull the foam strip forward over the top of the body and bind it down at the front, leaving a short tag of foam standing up past the eye as the Gurgler lip; add another leg set if desired.
7. Whip finish behind the eye and add a drop of cement. Rig the offset hook point tucked just under the foam back so the fly fishes weedless.
