How to tie it
Start black thread about 80% up the shank and lay a thread base back to the bend. Even the tips of a clump of grizzly spade-hackle fibers, measure to one shank length, and tie them in at the bend (curve up) as a tail. Bind the butts forward to just short of the starting point and trim.
Select two matched grizzly (or hen) hackle tips, oppose them so they curve away from each other, and even the tips. Measure them to one shank length and tie them in as upright divided wings at the 80% point with reverse pinch wraps; stand them up with a small thread dam in front and figure-eight to separate them.
Tie in a stripped grizzly hackle stem at the bend and wind it forward in touching turns to form a segmented body up to the wings; tie off and trim.
Tie in a grizzly rooster hackle and wind several turns behind and in front of the wings for a Catskill-style collar, then tie off and trim.
Whip finish behind the eye and add a drop of head cement.
