Slide a gunmetal glass bead onto the hook and secure it in the vise. Start white 70-denier thread right behind the bead and lock it with a jam knot; clip the tag.
Snip the end of a strand of pearl mylar micro-braid so the tip frays, then tie it in directly behind the bead.
Wrap the thread rearward in touching (connecting) wraps to the bend, covering the whole shank; for a longer midge you can carry it slightly around the bend.
Wrap the pearl braid forward in touching turns over the entire shank up to just behind the bead, then take one extra locking pass.
Secure the braid with a couple of tight thread wraps and clip the excess.
Whip finish behind the bead and add a touch of cement.
