Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Kumoto K7988 salmon/steelhead hook, #2-4
  • Thread Black 140 denier

Materials

  • Plummeting tungsten bead Fluorescent orange slotted tungsten bead (1 (5.5mm / 7-32 in, size to hook))
  • Rabbit strip (1/8 in) Black rabbit strip (1 (tail/underbody))
  • Ice Dub UV black ice dub (body)
  • Schlappen Black saddle hackle (1 (collar))

How to tie it

  1. Slide a fluorescent-orange plummeting tungsten bead onto the hook and seat it against the eye. Start black thread behind the bead and run a base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a black 1/8-inch rabbit strip at the bend for the tail, about a shank-length long, and lash the front of the hide up the shank as an underbody.
  3. Dub a slim, slightly tapered body of UV black Ice Dub forward to just behind the bead.
  4. Tie in a black schlappen feather by the tip and make two or three turns as a soft, mobile collar behind the bead; tie off and stroke the fibers back.
  5. Build a small thread head against the bead, whip finish and cement.
