Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Gamakatsu SL12S (or similar saltwater streamer hook), 1/0-2
  • Thread Orange or red Flat waxed nylon

Materials

  • Rabbit zonker strip (cut from rabbit hide) Olive / orange rabbit zonker strip (1 strip for the worm body)
  • Senyo's Laser Dub Orange and olive senyo s laser dub (2 small clumps)
  • Mini foam booby round eyes Olive frog foam (1 pair)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the SL12S hook and start the flat waxed thread at the 30% point behind the eye, wrapping a base back toward the bend.
  2. Tie in a rabbit zonker strip at the bend so the leather-and-fur tail streams off the back as the palolo worm body, roughly two shank-lengths long.
  3. Wrap the thread forward a few turns to anchor the strip and keep the worm segment slim.
  4. Stack a small clump of olive Laser Dub on the bottom and orange on top, spinning it around the shank to build a soft, breathing collar.
  5. Sweep the Laser Dub back and lock it with several thread wraps to give a tapered head-to-worm transition.
  6. Figure-eight the pair of mini olive foam booby eyes to the top of the shank near the eye so the fly slides and rides with the worm hanging down.
  7. Build a neat thread head, whip finish, and add a drop of cement.
