RIO's Morrish Still Stone

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL dry/hopper hook, 6-10
  • Thread Tan or orange 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Closed-cell foam, 2mm (underbody/belly) Orange or tan foam strip (1 strip)
  • Closed-cell foam, 2mm (back) Brown/tan closed cell foam mm (1 strip)
  • Round rubber legs Barred brown rubber legs (2 pairs)
  • Poly yarn (indicator) Orange poly yarn (small tuft)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base and bind a belly strip of orange foam along the shank from the eye to the bend, keeping the profile flat and low; the Still Stone rides flush like a spent stone.
  2. Bind the brown back-foam strip at the bend on top, pointing rearward, so the tail end reaches one shank length past the bend.
  3. Pull the back foam forward over the body and pinch-bind at two points to segment it, stopping at the 70% mark.
  4. Figure-8 a pair of barred rubber legs on each side at each segmentation point and splay them flat to the sides, spent-style.
  5. Trim the legs to about one shank length.
  6. Add a small orange poly indicator tuft on top of the thorax for visibility.
  7. Whip finish under the front foam, snip a short blunt head, and cement the wraps.
