Poly yarn / Antron (sighter hot spot) Hot pink or orange poly yarn antron (small tuft)
How to tie it
Start thread mid-shank and tie in a slim, sparse deer-hair tail/rear body pointing back one shank length, kept low and thin so the rear rides in the surface film.
Wrap a slender deer-hair or dubbed body forward to the 60% mark.
Tie in and wind a saddle hackle in 3-4 turns as a collar at the 60% mark for a low waking wake, then tie off.
Build the buoyant head: stack and bind a large bunch of deer hair (or fold a foam strip) at the front so it flares into a broad, high-floating head; a fat head keeps the fly planted and skating without diving.
Add a small tuft of hot-colored poly yarn on top of the head as an angler sighter.
Trim the head into a rounded, forward-facing dome that pushes water when skated.
