Thread Black 6/0 (140 denier)
Materials
Balance pin (straight pin or jig extension) - (1)
Tungsten or brass bead Black or gold bead (1, sized to hook)
Marabou (tail) Black, olive, or brown marabou (1 plume)
Krystal Flash (tail accent) Pearl or copper flash (4-6 strands)
Chenille or Estaz (body) To match tail (1 length)
Saddle hackle (palmer) To match tail (1)
How to tie it
Lay the balance pin along the front of the shank so its head extends one bead's-width past the hook eye, then slide the bead onto the pin and bind pin and bead firmly at the eye; this cantilevers the weight forward so the fly rides level.
Run thread back to the bend and tie in a marabou tail one full shank length long, kept sparse.
Add 4-6 strands of Krystal Flash along the tail, trimmed just short of the marabou tips.
Tie in a saddle hackle by the tip and a length of chenille at the bend.
Wrap the chenille forward in touching turns to just behind the bead and tie off.
Palmer the hackle forward through the body in 5-6 open, evenly spaced turns, tie off behind the bead, and snip the surplus.
Build a small thread head behind the bead, whip finish, and cement.
