Reference Recipe

• Hook Curved nymph/scud hook (e.g. Daiichi 1120), 14-18
• Thread Black 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

• Tungsten bead Black or copper slotted tungsten bead (1, sized to hook)
• Ultra Wire, small-medium Copper or brown ultra wire small medium (1 length)
• Floss (shellback) Black floss (2 strands)
• Goose biots (tails) Brown/tan goose biots (2)
• Pheasant tail fibers (wingcase) Natural pheasant tail fibers (small bunch)
• Hungarian partridge (legs) Natural partridge (1 feather)
• Hare's mask or Simi Seal dubbing (thorax) Brown-olive darker thorax dubbing (1 pinch)

How to tie it

1. Seat the bead at the eye and start thread behind it; run a smooth base to the bend.
2. Split two goose biots into a narrow V for tails, one shank length long, tied at the bend.
3. Bind two strands of black floss and the wire along the top of the shank down to the tails.
4. Wrap the wire forward in touching turns to form a shiny segmented abdomen, folding the floss forward over the top every fourth turn to make a dark shellback; stop at the 65% mark and tie off.
5. Tie in a small bunch of pheasant tail fibers pointing forward over the eye to fold back later as a wingcase.
6. Dub a short buggy thorax to just behind the bead, then tie partridge fibers along each side for legs reaching mid-body.
7. Pull the pheasant tail wingcase over the thorax, bind behind the bead, snip the excess, whip finish, and cement.
