Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry/emerger hook, #14-18
  • Thread Cinnamon/tan 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Antron / sparkle yarn (mop-style loose abdomen) Cinnamon or olive (abdomen)
  • Dubbing Cinnamon/olive (thorax)
  • Elk hair Natural deer hair (wing/overwing)
  • Hackle Brown/ginger hackle (1 (optional collar))

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and run a base to the bend of the hook.
  2. Tie in a loose, shaggy Antron/sparkle-yarn abdomen so it forms a translucent, mop-like pupa sack at the rear that will trap bubbles and hold water; keep it loose rather than tightly wrapped.
  3. Dub a slim thorax forward from the abdomen to the front third of the shank.
  4. Stack a clump of natural elk hair and tie it in over the top as a down-wing/overwing, tips reaching to about the bend; secure the butts.
  5. If desired, wind a turn or two of brown/ginger hackle at the front as a sparse collar and tie off.
  6. Build a small head, whip finish and cement.
