Start tan 12/0 thread and dub a short, chunky tapered body forward over the rear three-quarters of the shank.
In front of the body catch a doubled loop of thread and lock it with several backward wraps; stand the loop up out of the way as your hackle-stacker post.
Tie in a barred dark ginger hackle dull-side up, leaning back on the far side of the shank.
Wrap the hackle up and down the standing thread loop over a length matching the bare front shank, then tie down the tip.
Tie a deer-hair wing in front of the hackle brush, tips angled back about one shank long, and dub over the trimmed butts.
Split the deer hair down the middle with your scissor tips, pull the loaded hackle loop forward through the gap, and weave it side to side so the fibers cage the top of the fly.
Bind the loop behind the eye, post any front fibers upright, whip finish, and add a drop of cement.
