Ice Dub Gold brown ice dub (hot-spot collar)
India hen back Natural partridge (1 (soft hackle))
How to tie it
Secure a teardrop copper tungsten bead on a straight-shank jig hook with a few thread wraps, including a couple of circular wraps to keep it straight, then work the thread back.
Tie in a small wood-duck-gold mallard flank tail, binding the whole stem down the shank to build a taper.
Tie in extra-small copper wire on the side for the rib, then tie in one strand of pearl Crystal Flash.
Dub a tapered light hare's-ear buggy-nymph body (less is more), like a hare's-ear bird's nest.
Palmer the Crystal Flash forward over the body and tie it off (set the tag aside), then counter-wrap the copper wire forward through it to protect it; trim the wire.
Dub a small hot-spot collar of gold-brown Ice Dub behind the bead (pick out a few fibers for color if desired).
Prepare a natural India hen-back feather: measure the fibers, strip them off, then lay them in and palmer a clean soft-hackle collar, securing with thread.
Take the reserved Crystal Flash, cut it in half, and tie in a strand on each side as flashy legs. Turn a little more buggy-nymph dubbing at the head, pin the front legs back, and tie off. Trim the side legs to tail length and the front legs to just past the bead.
