Reference Recipe

  • Hook Medium-heavy wire jig hook (e.g. Tiemco 403BLJ), 8-16
  • Thread Orange/burnt orange 8/0-10/0 (Veevus)

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Metallic red slotted tungsten bead (1)
  • Australian possum Crawfish orange (tail and body)
  • Sili Legs Pumpkin barred (legs)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a red slotted tungsten bead onto a jig hook and build a small thread dam behind it to lock it in place, then take the thread back to just behind the hook point.
  2. Cut a small bunch of Australian possum (crawfish orange), tease out and save the soft underfur, and tie the remaining guard-hair bunch in as a tail slightly shorter than the hook shank.
  3. Dub the saved possum underfur onto the thread and wrap a shaggy body forward along the shank toward the bead.
  4. Tie in barred pumpkin Sili Legs along the sides, finish the thread behind the bead, and whip finish.
