Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Standard-length saltwater hook with trailing stinger hook, #1/0-2
  • Thread White 140 denier

Materials

  • Dumbbell / bead-chain eyes (1 pair)
  • Bucktail White bucktail (belly)
  • Krystal Flash / Flashabou Pearl flashabou (midline flash)
  • Bucktail Chartreuse bucktail (back)
  • Stinger hook + coated wire/mono (1 (trailer))
  • UV resin / epoxy Clear uv resin (head)

How to tie it

  1. Rig the stinger: attach a short trailing hook on a loop of coated wire or heavy mono and lash it along the front hook shank, point up.
  2. Tie a pair of dumbbell (or bead-chain) eyes on top of the shank about one-third back from the eye so the fly rides point-up.
  3. Turn the hook point-up. In front of and behind the eyes, tie in a clump of white bucktail as the belly, extending past the bend, and wrap it so it sits on the now-top of the hook.
  4. Add several strands of pearl flash over the white for a lateral line.
  5. Flip understanding of orientation and tie a chartreuse bucktail clump over the eyes as the back, matching the belly length, to make the classic Clouser two-tone.
  6. Build a smooth thread head over the eyes, whip finish and coat with UV resin or epoxy; cure.
