How to tie it
Rear section: mount the rear hook (Firehole 839 #4) and lay a GSP thread base.
Tie in a tail of two clumps of white marabou, each about one hook-shank long (dampen with your fingers to control it), then bind the marabou butts down the full shank for a smooth body and trim.
Tie in about three strands of gold crystal flash V-style (wrap around the bobbin barrel at their midpoint so both halves lie along the sides); trim slightly longer than the tail.
Prep a white saddle hackle by stripping the fuzzy base, tie it in by the tip, and let it hang.
Tie in gold UV polar chenille by its core along the full shank; advance the thread to just behind the eye, then wrap the chenille forward in touching turns, pulling down tight on each wrap for durability; tie off behind the eye and trim.
Palmer the saddle hackle forward through the chenille to just behind the eye, tie off, whip finish, and brush out the polar chenille and hackle to free trapped fibers. Set the rear section aside.
Front section: on the front hook (Firehole 839 #4) slide on a large gold brass cone, then behind it wrap 6-7 turns of.035 lead-free wire, trim it, and push the wire up into the cone; start the GSP thread behind the wire.
Lay a thread base back a little into the bend (this helps the articulation sit straight), then tie in a doubled 4-5 in piece of 30 lb Dacron backing right behind the lead wire.
Thread the finished rear section onto the Dacron loop, adjust the gap, trap it with a couple of wraps, then lash the Dacron down to the lead wire, fold both tag ends back and lock them down; saturate the joint with brushable Zap-A-Gap.
Build the front section as a repeat of the rear: white marabou tail (reaching about a third to halfway back on the front shank), gold crystal flash, a white saddle hackle tied in by the tip, and a gold UV polar chenille body palmered forward and pulled tight, then palmer the hackle forward. All seated tight behind the cone.
Tie off behind the cone, whip finish, brush out the fibers, and add cement if desired to finish the fly.
