RIO Morrish Pom Skater 2.0

Salmon/Steelhead · Steelhead · Salmon · Intermediate · 1 version

Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Short stinger-style steelhead hook (modern Ahrex), 6-8
  • Thread To match (strong) 140 denier

Materials

  • Krystal Flash Pearl/orange flash (a few strands (tail))
  • Ice Dub To match (natural/black) ice dub (slim body)
  • Deer hair (or foam) Natural/dyed deer hair (spun/stacked buoyant head)
  • Sighter material Fluorescent orange/pink sighter material (small tuft (hot spot))

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread on a short stinger hook and wrap to the bend.
  2. Tie in a short tail of pearl and orange Krystal Flash at the bend.
  3. Dub a slim, low-riding body of ice-dub over the rear two-thirds of the shank, adding a subtle bright hot-spot.
  4. At the front third, stack and spin a bundle of deer hair (or cinch on a foam pad) to build a large, buoyant 'pom' head, keeping the tips flared back as a collar.
  5. Add a small tuft of bright sighter material on top of the head for visibility.
  6. Trim and shape the deer-hair head large and rounded so it displaces water and rides 'sticky' on the surface, then whip finish and cement.
