Reference Recipe
- Hook 1x-2x long nymph/streamer hook, 10-14
- Thread olive 12/0
Materials
- Bead-chain eyes Silver bead chain eyes medium (medium, one pair)
- Marabou (tail and wing) Barred olive marabou (2 small clumps)
- Ultra wire (rib) Gold wire (extra-small, one strand)
- Hare's ear dubbing Olive ice dub (small pinch)
- Fine rubber legs Barred white rubber legs (1-2 pairs)
How to tie it
- Mount the hook and lay an olive thread base over the front third of the shank.
- Figure-8 the bead-chain eyes on top of the shank a quarter-shank behind the eye; lock them with crosswraps and a drop of glue.
- At the bend, tie in a barred-olive marabou tail one shank length long; a couple of wraps tight under the butt cocks it slightly up.
- Tie in the gold wire at the bend for the rib.
- Dub a slim olive hare's-ear body forward, stopping just behind the bead-chain eyes.
- Counter-wrap the gold wire forward in 4-5 open turns, opposite the way you dubbed, then helicopter off the excess.
- Behind the eyes tie in the fine barred rubber legs and split them with a figure-8; a pinch of dubbing between them holds the splay.
- Tie in the second marabou clump in front of the eyes as a wing, reaching back to the tail base; trim the butts.
- Whip finish, snip, and seal the head with a drop of flex cement.
