  • Thread To match body 6/0

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Black or gold bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Pine squirrel or rabbit strip Olive, brown, or black pine squirrel rabbit strip (tail/body)
  • Flash Pearl/UV flash (a few strands)
  • Hen hackle To match soft hackle (optional collar)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a slotted tungsten bead onto a #10 jig hook, seat it behind the eye, start the thread, and wrap to the bend.
  2. Tie in a pine squirrel (or rabbit) strip tail about one-and-a-half shank-lengths long at the bend, hide side down, and add a few strands of flash.
  3. Tie in a length of pine squirrel Zonker or ice-dub at the bend for the body.
  4. Wrap or palmer the body material forward in touching turns to build a leech body and tie off behind the bead.
  5. Optionally wrap a soft-hackle collar of hen behind the bead for extra movement.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
