Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Togens scud hook, barbless, 1X short, #10
  • Thread Fluorescent orange (hot orange works) 12/0 classic waxed

Materials

  • Marabou Hot orange marabou (A small pinch peeled off one side of a plume)
  • Plush chenille / fritz Fluorescent yellow sunburst (15 mm, one short length)

How to tie it

  1. Start fluorescent orange thread on the short scud hook and take it back to where the barb would be.
  2. Peel a small amount of hot orange marabou off one side of a plume (just enough for a short, stubby tail) and tie it in at the rear. Bind the butts down and trim so they are covered.
  3. Take the 15 mm fluorescent yellow sunburst plush chenille and expose a little of the bare string core at the end. If you are new to blobs, wet the chenille first; it is much easier to handle.
  4. Tie the exposed core in at the rear and run the thread all the way forward, stopping about one eye-length short of the eye.
  5. Wrap the chenille forward in touching turns to the thread, keeping the head clear. Tie it off, teasing any stubborn fibers back out of the wraps.
  6. Build a small orange thread head, trim the chenille away, and whip finish.
  7. Give the chenille a light haircut, nothing fancy, trimming it back mainly where the hook gape is so the point is clear, then round the rest of the fly off.
