  • Hook 1XL nymph/wet, 10-18
  • Thread To match (natural, olive or black) 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Wood duck, mallard flank or partridge (small bunch)
  • Dubbing Natural, olive or black dubbing (as needed)
  • Wire rib Fine, to match (1 length)
  • Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (2-3 strands)
  • Soft hackle Partridge (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and wrap a base to the bend. Tie in a short tail of wood duck, mallard flank or partridge fibers, half a shank long.
  2. Catch in a length of fine wire for the rib.
  3. Dub a slim body two-thirds up the shank.
  4. Rib forward with 4-5 open, evenly spaced turns of wire and tie off.
  5. Tie in 2-3 peacock herls and wrap a small thorax.
  6. Wrap one turn of partridge soft hackle in front of the thorax for legs; sweep the fibers back and pin.
  7. Build a small head, whip finish and cement.
