How to tie it
Wax the nano silk, start it behind the eye and close the gap back along the shank. Leave plenty of room at the front. Crowding the head turns this fly into a mess.
Spin the bobbin counterclockwise to flatten the thread and tie in silver holographic tinsel, binding it back to about the hook point. Take a few open turns forward, then wrap the tinsel forward from the rear in five or six touching turns to form a bright silver tag/butt. Tie off and hold the remaining tinsel aside.
Tie in the glacier blue flat braid, again spinning the thread counterclockwise to catch it on top, and bind it back to the front of the silver tag. Wrap it forward with each turn just barely overlapping the last so the body stays slim and slick, stopping at the 70% point. Tie off and trim.
Brush a thin coat of UV resin over the braid body and cure it. Salmon and steelhead have rough mouths and this protects the braid.
Wax the thread and spin on a good clump of black hare dubbing plus. Wrap a compact dubbing ball at the front of the body. Its only job is to flare the collars out, so make it bigger if you want more flare.
Strip the fluff from a ringneck pheasant spey feather and tie it in by the butt. Grip the tip with hackle pliers and take three turns as the first collar, each one tight against the dubbing ball and the previous turn, stroking everything rearward. Tie off, trim, and brush it out.
Prepare the extra-large silver doctor blue mallard flank feather, stripping back some of the thicker centre quill, and tie it in along the side. Wrap three light turns as the second collar, keeping each turn tight against the last and trapping no fibers. Tie off, trim and brush.
Tie the large-dot silver doctor blue guinea in by the tip and take two or three turns as the front collar, right up against the mallard, stroking everything back on each pass. Tie off and trim the stem.
Build a small black thread head, whip finish four or five turns toward the eye, brush any trapped fibers free, and coat the head with UV resin.
