Materials
Lead wire - (0.035 in., wrapped over the body area)
Marabou blood quill Olive marabou (One soft bushy bunch for the tail)
Angel hair Rusty olive (Small pinch over the tail)
Copper wire Copper wire (Small, one length for the counter-rib)
Dubbing blend Chum fry semi-seal + 50% olive seal fur + chopped rusty olive angel hair (Enough for a thick body)
Saddle hackle (webby, from the base of the saddle) Light/pale olive saddle hackle (1 feather, palmered)
UV resin (Solarez Bone Dry) Clear uv resin (Head coating)
How to tie it
Mount the heavy streamer hook and wrap the shank with 0.035 in. lead wire, then start olive 6/0 thread and bind the wraps down, taking the thread back to the bend.
Select a soft, bushy marabou blood quill, snip the stiff tip off, and tie it in at the bend as a tail about one shank-length long. Bind it down hard and take a turn in behind it to lift it.
Add a small pinch of rusty olive angel hair over the tail. Soft flash that breathes with the marabou rather than stiffening it. Trim to tail length.
Tie in the small copper wire at the rear for reinforcement and throw a half hitch in.
Blend the body dubbing: hareline chum fry semi-seal, 50% olive seal fur, and a little chopped rusty olive angel hair. Dub it on fairly loosely and wrap a thick, buggy body forward to the 90% point.
Take a very webby hackle from the base of a pale olive saddle, the soft feathers most tyers discard, and tie it in at the front of the body.
Palmer the hackle back to the tail, hold it there, and counter-wrap the copper wire forward through the hackle to the front, locking every stem down. Tie off the wire and helicopter it away, then trim the hackle.
Build a good big olive head, whip finish, and coat it with UV resin. Pick the body dubbing out with a brush so it stands proud between the hackle turns.
