How to tie it
Start rust thread on the hook and wrap back to the bend.
Take a pinch of rust Dark Water dubbing and pull-and-stack it repeatedly between your fingers until the fibers align in one direction, then roll it lightly into a bundle.
Tie the bundle down at the bend, then fold the forward half back over the tie-in point and bind it down. That fold forms a soft dubbing tail about half a shank-length long. Do not worry about the small bulge; the body dubbing will cover it.
Form a dubbing loop at the front of the tail and wax it well. Load the loop with midnight black Dark Water dubbing a small pinch at a time, spreading it slightly, then spin it tight with a dubbing spinner. Brush the rope out with a stiff wire brush.
Take a couple of turns of the dubbing rope right at the rear, then wrap forward in tight touching turns, each one snug against the last so no thread shows and the step at the tail disappears. Continue to the 90% point.
Tie the rope off, stroke all the fibers rearward, take a few wraps in front and trim the excess.
Build a substantial (but not huge) head, whip finish five turns, put head cement directly on the thread, then whip finish another three or four turns over it and cut the thread.
Stroke the fibers back, singe any stray fibers off the head with a lighter, then brush the body hard forwards and backwards with a wire/barbecue brush to pull out the fibers and make it leechy.
