Hook Mustad Big Game Predator (barbless, offset point), #2
Thread Fluorescent red 12/0 classic waxed
Materials
Marabou plume Light pink marabou plume (1 long fluffy plume)
Angel hair Pink/red angel hair (One small hank)
Guinea fowl, large dot Purple guinea fowl large dot (1 feather)
Chenille (optional underbody) Orange or pink chenille (Short length, to bulk the body)
UV resin Clear uv resin (Head coating)
How to tie it
Start fluorescent red thread behind the eye and wrap back to the hook point, never past the bend. Wrap the shank with thread (or an orange/pink chenille underbody if you want a fatter fly), stopping at the 70% point to leave room for the wing and collar.
Choose a long, fluffy light pink marabou plume, strip the junk off the base, and tie it in by the tip at the rear.
Wrap the marabou forward like a palmered hackle, five to ten turns depending on the plume, opening the wraps slightly and stroking all the fibers rearward before every turn. Brush the fibers out with a stiff brush as you go. If the plume collapses you have trapped fibers, so brush them free.
Tie the marabou off at the 70% point with five or six wraps on top and in front, trim the stem, and brush the body out again.
Take a small hank of pink/red angel hair and fold it roughly in half. Tie it in at the fold on top of the shank with a couple of loose wraps, then split the bundle and bring half down each side and underneath so it surrounds the fly. Bind it down and brush out the loose strands.
Prepare a large-dot purple guinea feather (strip the fluff, notch a small V at the tip) and tie it in by the tip. Grip the butt with hackle pliers and wrap two or three turns as the front collar, stroking all the material rearward every time around. Do not overdress it.
Tie off the collar, unclip the pliers, sweep everything back, trim the stem, and build a short bright red thread head that forces all the material rearward.
Whip finish, coat the head with UV resin, and give the whole fly a final brush out.
