Mount a barbless Mustad Predator size 2. Start the fluorescent red waxed thread and cover the shank back to the hook point — never past the bend — and forward again, stopping about two-thirds up to leave room for the collar.
Pick one of the longer, fluffier light pink marabou plumes and strip the junk off the base to expose a clean tip.
Tie the plume in by the tip at the front of the thread body, bind back to the rear and bring the thread forward again.
Wrap the marabou forward like an open palmer, anywhere from five to ten turns depending on the plume, stroking every fiber back on each turn.
Brush the marabou out as you go with a stiff brush. If the body looks collapsed you have trapped a plume, and this is the step worth taking your time on — how well it is brushed out is how well the fly moves.
Tie the marabou off with five or six wraps on top and six in front, cut the plume away and brush the body out again.
Fold a bunch of pink/red angel hair roughly in half and tie it in at the fold so the other half sticks out over the front. Take a couple of loose wraps to keep it on top.
Split the front half and bring it down each side and underneath, spreading it so it surrounds the shank, then brush out the fibers that come loose.
Prep a large-dot purple guinea feather with a V notch at the tip, tie it in by the tip, cut the excess and wrap it with hackle pliers, stroking all the material back on every turn. One or two turns is plenty — don't overdress it.
Tie off the stem and cut it out, build a small head that forces all the material back, whip finish, and coat the head with UV resin. Brush the collar out to finish.
