Midge · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Curved scud/pupa hook, 12-16
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Silver/chrome bead (1 (sized to hook))
  • Holographic tinsel or flash Blue flashabou (body)
  • Wire rib Silver wire (fine)
  • Antron or poly yarn gills White poly yarn (small tuft)
  • UV resin Clear uv resin (body coat)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a silver/chrome bead onto the hook and seat it against the eye, then start the thread behind it and wrap a thin base to the start of the bend.
  2. Tie in a length of fine silver wire at the rear for the rib and leave it hanging.
  3. Tie in blue holographic tinsel and wrap a slim, smooth body forward to just behind the bead; tie off and trim.
  4. Counter-wrap the silver wire forward in five or six evenly spaced turns to rib and segment the body, tie off, and helicopter or trim the excess.
  5. Tie in a small tuft of white Antron on top just behind the bead and trim it short to suggest the breathing gills.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and clip the thread.
  7. Coat the body with a thin layer of UV resin and cure for a glossy, durable chrome finish.
